All eyes are currently focused on the struggles of Commonwealth Games champion Lakshya Sen and former world No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth as they aim for a resurgence in their form in Jakarta to keep their Paris 2024 qualification dreams alive. Unfortunately, the draw has not been favorable for them, with Sen scheduled to compete against China’s Weng Hong Yang, the same player who caused his early exit at the Malaysia Open earlier this month.
Srikanth’s initial opponent in the first round will be Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia, a former All England champion and the current world No. 10. HS Prannoy, ranked at World No. 9, is the only Indian player with a seventh seed in the men’s singles category. Seeking a strong performance after reaching the semifinals in the India Open in Delhi last week, Prannoy faces a tough opening match against Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew, a former world champion.
