Have a look at the cost, opening date, capacity and location of the Intuit Dome

Throughout the entirety of the LA Clippers’ existence, they have perennially played second fiddle to the Los Angeles Lakers, operating in the Lakers’ shadow.

Despite sharing an arena, the Clippers have struggled to establish it as a true home, contending with a predominantly pro-Lakers crowd during their matchups.

Even during Clippers’ home games, the Lakers’ championship banners have had to be concealed.

However, a transformative change is on the horizon, as the Clippers are set to inaugurate a new home next season—the Intuit Dome. This arena, a longtime vision of owner Steve Ballmer, marks a significant departure from their shared venue with the Lakers.

While initial estimates for the project pegged it at $1.2 billion, recent information suggests that the cost has surged to around $2 billion. Gillian Zucker, the Clippers’ president of business operations, attributes this increase to post-COVID disruptions, including supply chain challenges and rising material costs.

The Intuit Dome is located on the southeast corner of Century Blvd. and S. Prairie Avenue in Inglewood, CA and is scheduled to open its doors in August 2024, ahead of the 2024-25 NBA season.

Intuit Dome’s Infrastructure

Situated on a 28-acre mixed-use development lot in Inglewood, adjacent to the Rams’ SoFi Stadium, the Intuit Dome will accommodate 18,000 spectators. The Clippers’ compound, within this complex, will house an 85,000 square foot practice facility, 71,000 square feet of team office space, and a 25,000-square-foot sports medicine area.

The site will also feature retail spaces and a concert stage. An intriguing aspect of the Intuit Dome is “The Wall,” a dedicated section comprising 51 continuous rows of seating exclusively for Clippers fans.

Fans in this section must adhere to specific rules, such as not cheering for the opposing team, refraining from wearing opponent gear, and reselling tickets exclusively within the Clippers’ marketplace.

For those in the top section of “The Wall” concerned about missing the on-court action, the Clippers have planned a solution—an acre-sized Halo Board, the largest double-sided scoreboard in any arena.

This high-tech addition ensures that every fan, regardless of their seat, enjoys an optimal view of the game.

Contrary to the notion of being a hardcore basketball experience, the Intuit Dome also offers a range of suites, including “backstage bungalows” for a quieter pregame and halftime experience, as well as “Halo Suites” providing a unique vantage point for game viewing.

The grandeur of the Intuit Dome will not be limited to regular season games, as it has been selected to host the NBA All-Star Game in 2026, serving as a platform to showcase Steve Ballmer’s vision for the Clippers’ new home.
