In the two-test ICC World Test Championship series, which begins on January 19 with South Africa scheduled to depart, Neil Brand will captain the team. The first Test match between South Africa and the New Zealand XI will take place in Mount Maunganui on February 4; the warm-up match will take place from January 29 to January 31.
Moore brings the overall number of uncapped players in the travelling group to fifteen by being the eighth player named. Moore was called up after Tony de Zorzi signed an SA20 contract with the Super Giants of Durban, making him unavailable.
Cricket South Africa verified Moore’s addition in a statement that said:
Western Province batter Edward Moore has been added to the Proteas Test squad for the two-match series against New Zealand.”
Moore would have thought himself unlucky to be selected for the New Zealand Tests against an inexperienced squad, having amassed 17 centuries and 42 fifties in his illustrious career. Nevertheless, he managed to make the squad. As for the Proteas, Moore will probably start the inning.
