Sanam’s musical journey began at the tender age of 6, learning not only to sing but also mastering the guitar and piano on his own. His innate talent and passion for music were nurtured by his family, particularly his parents, who recognized his gift and wholeheartedly supported his dream of becoming a singer.
Sanam’s educational journey led him to the Indian School in Muscat, Oman, and later to Kirori Mal College in New Delhi. However, he chose to follow his passion for music by marking the beginning of an extraordinary career.
Sanam Puri career
In 2010, musician Sanam Puri along with his brother Samar and two close friends formed the pop band SQS Supastars. The band’s exceptional talent caught the attention of industry insiders by leading them to win the Times Music Pop Band Hunt. The subsequent move to Mumbai marked the rebranding of the band as the SQS Project by setting the stage for their musical journey.
The turning point came in 2013 when the SQS Project enlisted the expertise of manager Ben Thomas, known for his work with icons like Sonu Nigam and Vishal–Shekhar. The band’s accidental rise on YouTube, initially intended for concert promotions, turned them into global sensations. Their unique blend of talent and charisma attracted widespread acclaim, making them a force to be reckoned with in the music industry.
By 2014, the band underwent another transformation, renaming itself simply as ‘Sanam.’ The name, signifying love in various languages like Hindi, Sanskrit, Urdu, Persian, and Arabic, reflected the band’s vision of spreading love through their music. Sanam Puri’s ambition goes beyond personal success; he aims to revive the indie music culture in India, drawing inspiration from the likes of ‘Silk Route.’
Sanam Puri’s musical journey is adorned with accolades and achievements. The SQS Project won the Times Music Supastars in 2010 by marking their entry into the limelight. The band’s accidental rise on YouTube turned out to be a stroke of genius by earning them an $800 cheque from Google.
Their musical excellence was acknowledged with awards like the Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival Award for Live Band in 2019 and the RADIO CITY FREEDOM AWARDS 2019 for the song #SANAMOriginal “ITNI DOOR” in the Best Pop Artist (Public Choice) category.
