2023 AFC Asian Cup schedule, date, venue, matches, & officials list
Out of the 18 member Associations, they’ve chosen a collective of 35 referees and 39 assistant referees. Their selection criteria hinge on technical proficiency, adept game management, physical fitness, and prior performance in high-level continental and international football competitions.
This tournament will witness a historic moment with the full introduction of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system, making its debut in this 18th installment. It’s worth noting that VAR was successfully integrated from the quarter-final stage during the previous edition held in the United Arab Emirates. In order to uphold the highest standards of match officiating, the AFC Asian Cup 2023 has introduced new roles such as Video Match Officials and expanded existing ones.
Among the list of match officials, notable figures include seasoned male officials Abdulrahman Al-Jassim of Qatar, who officiated the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 third-place game between Croatia and Morocco, and Alireza Faghani, who will be officiating in his third AFC Asian Cup.
