Following a crash that happened in Adelaide’s inner north on Saturday, professional road racing cyclist Rohan Dennis has been charged with his wife Melissa Hoskins’s death.

According to SA Police, just after 8 p.m., emergency personnel were dispatched to Avenel Gardens Road in Medindie in response to reports of a woman being struck by a car, as per a report in ABC. 

After being admitted to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for treatment for her severe injuries, the news outlet announced that the woman passed away the next night. On March 13, Rohan Dennis will appear in Adelaide Magistrates Court to answer to his charges.

Who is Rohan Dennis?

Rohan Dennis is an Australian road racing cyclist who competes on UCI WorldTeam Visma–Lease a Bike. He was born on May 28, 1990 in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia. The 33-year-old stands 1.82 m (5 ft 11+1⁄2 in) tall.

A look at Rohan Dennis’ career

The track was Dennis’s first love in his career, and he competed for Australia at the 2012 Summer Olympics, winning silver in the team pursuit. He made his Tour de France debut in 2013 after signing for Garmin-Sharp, withdrawing from the competition before Stage 9.

Dennis made a unique mid-season move to the BMC Racing Team in August 2014. With his new squad, he went on to win the World Squad Time Trial Championships.

Along with teammates Damiano Caruso and Dylan Teuns, Dennis moved from BMC to Bahrain-Merida in 2019 on a two-year contract, it was confirmed in August 2018. Announcing his arrival to Team Ineos for the 2020 campaign, Dennis made his statement on December 9, 2019.
