IIT-Kharagpur denies being behind India of the Ages 2024 calendar

IIT Kharagpur didn’t make the India of the Ages 2024 calendar

The Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, has clarified that it is unrelated to a 2024 calendar that is circulating on social media under its name and claims to demonstrate the connection between religion, science, and culture and India’s claim to be the birthplace of almost everything in the world.

What is the controversy with ‘India of the Ages’?

The institution’s top executives are listed as members of the “advisory board” that created the “India of the Ages” calendar, which is being extensively circulated on social media, just like the calendars it was credited with creating the previous few years.

“India was the motherland of our race, and Sanskrit the mother of Europe’s languages; she was the mother of our philosophy; mother, through the Arabs, of much of our mathematics; mother, through the Buddha, of the ideals embodied in Christianity; mother, through the village community, of self-government and democracy. Mother India is in many ways the mother of us all,” states the opening quote of the document, which is attributed to American historian-philosopher Will Durant and his wife Ariel Durant. Mother India is our mother in many senses.

“IIT Kharagpur has immense pleasure to present the Calendar of the Center of Excellence for Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) for the year 2024,” the calendar’s note reads as it closes. It further stated that the calendar’s objective was to highlight a variety of historical and scientific data to best weave together what at first glance appear to be disparate religious, scientific, and cultural systems into “One Single Global System of Humanity.” The evidence foundation that IIT Kharagpur had assembled was merely the tip of the iceberg; it is the result of extensive research, iteration, and mutual calibration of historical facts and their relationships.

However, IIT KGP disputes any responsibility

On its website, the institution is now displaying a ticker stating that it is unrelated to the calendar. It states, “The IKS Calendar of 2024 (India of the Ages), which is currently doing the rounds on social media and is allegedly issued by the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, is not an official calendar from IIT Kharagpur. As a result, neither the institute nor any of its representatives bear any liability about the accuracy of its information or any other problems that may arise.” IIT Kharagpur stated that the institute did not know the content that was represented in an individual capacity.
