Toto Wolff had sent congratulatory messages to both Max Verstappen and Christian Horner after the F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2021
The 2021 Formula One season and the season final Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will live long in the memory of ardent F1 viewers. It was down to the contentious nature in which Max Verstappen went onto become the first ever Dutch driver to win the revered drivers’ championship title with many lambasting the FIA and race director Michael Masi for how things had unraveled on the night.
In the lead till the 53rd lap, Hamilton who was proving to be a tough nut to crack for Verstappen saw his race regress as Nicholas Latifi crashed into the barrier. Michael Masi decided he wanted to mess around with everyone’s head. He went onto claim overtaking would not be allowed before changing his mind within just four minutes with him subsequently allowing five lapped cards to overtake.
Christian Horner Reveals Details Of Message He Sent Toto Wolff After The Abu Dhabi GP
The decision left Toto Wolff livid with him seething with Masi on the FIA radio before going onto launch a protest after Verstappen managed to get past the finishing line before Hamilton. A fuming Wolff also went onto refrain from giving any interviews after the race.
However, the German did go onto send messages of congratulation to both Verstappen and Christian Horner with Horner now revealing the intricacies of the message he sent back.
“Yes, I went to see Toto after the race, unfortunately he was unavailable,” Horner said on Race Fans.
“But I saw Ola Kallenius [chairman of the board of Daimler] who congratulated me and then Toto later in the evening did, as he sent to Max he sent me a text congratulating us on the drivers’ world championship.
“I congratulated him on winning the constructors world championship and reminded him that’s where the money is paid. Not the drivers. And that was it. I haven’t heard or spoken with him since,” Horner continued.
