“They shouldn’t be speaking to the referee at all. It wouldn’t happen in football,” Nico Rosberg Opines On Michael Masi And Mercedes

Nico Rosberg has called for an end to teams being allowed to contact The FIA race director in between races after the controversy between Michael Masi and Mercedes

In the aftermath of the debacle at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the world of Formula 1 has been divided into two sections. Apart from the Lewis Hamilton and max Verstappen gang, there have now sprung up two sections, one supporting The FIA race director Michael Masi and one against him.

The voices against Masi are aplenty at the moment after the Australian’s decision to allow lapped cars to overtake at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2021. His decision came shortly after he had refused for any overtaking proceeding the Nicholas Latifi crash on Sunday, one which saw a safety car being deployed.

Masi’s decision to allow only five cars to overtake was in contrast to the customary decision to all everyone the permission to overtake. It lead to Mercedes launching a double protest, one which was quashed by the FIA stewards in liue of Article 15.3 of the FIA Safety Regulations.

Ex-drivers’ championship title winner, Nico Rosberg has now commented on the entire debacle with him questioning why teams were allowed to get on the radio to talk to the race director in the first place as he drew parallels to football.

“Obviously, you hear Christian coming on the radio, to the referee saying ‘hey, we just need one more lap of racing’, that is not ideal.

“That is the type of thing we need to try and sort out for next year and get rid of that.

“They shouldn’t even be speaking to the referee at all. It wouldn’t happen in football.

“You can’t have the manager during the match calling the referee all the time. That doesn’t work,” said Rosberg, Hamilton’s old peer at Hamilton.
