As the world of football rejoiced and praised Lionel Messi for his monumental achievement, Spanish journalist Gerard Romero decided to take the opportunity and report some other breaking news. Gerard Romero is a Spanish journalist who owns Jijantes FC and has reported on FC Barcelona for several years. The 37-year-old decided to publish a story on Tuesday morning, stating that Messi and Barcelona president Joan Laporta spoke with each other following the end of the Ballon d’Or gala. Besides talking about his speech, Romero reported that the pair discussed about setting a date for his tribute at Camp Nou.

Lionel Messi confronts Gerard Romero and calls him a liar

Following the report about Messi from Romero, the Argentine legend quickly discredited the report. He also eviscerated Romero in the process and called him out by stating:

You lie… once again.โ€

During his time at PSG, Romero reported that one of his sons had a โ€œvery screwed up timeโ€ in Paris. He further added that this was one of the main reasons why his wife and children were making an “incredible effort” for Messi to make a return to Barcelona. As a result, Lionel Messi called out Romero for his report. Messi eventually ended up signing for MLS side Inter Miami, despite Romero stating that Messiโ€™s return to Barcelona was imminent. Aside from Messi, other Barcelona players like Robert Lewandowski and Franck Kessie also criticized Romero and called him out in the past.

Romero comes out with an apology

Meanwhile, Gerard Romero has spoken out about the whole incident with an apology. The Spanish journalist begged for forgiveness on Tuesday afternoon after Messi posted his message. Romero made claims that he received false information and added that he was once again duped about news relating to Lionel Messi.
