After winning silver in Sunday’s shooting competition, India made a strong start to the day by winning gold. Men’s trap shooting gold medalists Prithviraj Tondaiman, Kynan Chenai, and Zoravar Singh Sandhu of India set a record that had stood for 29 years at the Asian Games.

The group took home the top prize with a score of 361. India won its seventh shooting gold medal and 11th overall with this victory. Furthermore, it was India’s total 41st medal at the Asian Games 2023.

Kynan, who placed first, and Zoravar, who finished fourth, advanced to the final in the individual qualifying round. In the final, Kynan earned bronze, while Zoravar came in fifth. India further won silver in the women’s trap team competition.

Rajeshwari Kumari, Preeti Rajak, and Manisha Keer made up the team. However, only Keer made it to the final in the individual women’s trap event, where she placed sixth. With 22 medals (7 gold, 9 silver, and 6 bronze), India finishes its shooting competition at the Asian Games with their best-ever showing.

Notably, shooting claimed seven of the gold medals, ending the campaign with best even haul at the Day 8 of the event.

With a score of 46, China’s Qi Ying took home the gold medal, only one point ahead of Kuwait’s Talal Alrashidi, who had to settle for silver. Abdullah Alrashidi earned one gold and three silver medals for the father-and-son Alrashidi team.

Who is Zoravar Singh Sandhu?

Indian sport shooter Zoravar Singh Sandhu was born in Punjab on August 7th, 1977 and is aged 46. He competes in the trap division. He participated in the shooting squad for India in the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, in 2022 and cliched gold as India’s seventh gold in shooting in 2023 edition.

At the New Moti Bagh Gun Club in Patiala, he won the national shotgun selection trials. Last year in 2022, the shooter clinched a silver medal at the National Games.
