International cricket stadium in Varanasi
According to a statement from the PMO, the construction of a cricket stadium in Varanasi, which also happens to be Prime Minister Modi’s Lok Sabha constituency, is a significant step towards the achievement of his goal of creating contemporary, elite sports infrastructure.
The stadium was designed by Larsen and Tourbo (L&T), and the blueprints have been completed, according to CricTracker. The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) will then approve the project and obtain certificates of no objection from several departments, including groundwater and forestry.
Additionally, work will soon begin on building roads and other infrastructure in the stadium’s vicinity.

Where will the Varanis Stadium be built?
The stadium would be constructed in Ganjari, Rajatalab, for approximately Rs 450 crore on a site larger than 30 acres. The government has allotted INR 120 crore for the purchase of land, while INR 330 crore would be utilised to build the stadium.
The Divisional Commissioner, Kaushal Raj Sharma, was quoted by the Times of India, saying:
Preparations at Ganjari are being started for the proposed visit of the Prime Minister to lay the foundation stone of the cricket stadium on September 23. It will be a grand show as apart from BCCI office-bearers, star cricketers are also likely to take part in the ceremony.”
What are the features of the stadium?
Its thematic design draws influence from Lord Shiva and includes details like crescent-shaped roof covers, trident-shaped floodlights, and seating patterns that resemble ghat steps. It will have large “bilva patra” designs in metallic frames and galleries designed to resemble ghats. The pavilion and VIP lounge will be designed to resemble a damru.
What will be the capacity of the stadium?
Up to 30,000 spectators are expected to fit inside the new Varanasi International Cricket Stadium. Larsen & Toubro has won the order to design and build the stadium but no official name has been given to the stadium yet.
