According to a local news source, Targoviste News, Romanian athlete Catalin Stefanescu, a former national bodybuilding champion in the 80 kg weight category, was discovered on Sunday three feet underwater in a lake in the country’s Dambovita County.
He reportedly had a friend with him when they went fishing, and the friend returned after a quick trip home to discover his companion asleep in the water. Stefanescu was pronounced dead at the spot after an ambulance was quickly dispatched.
Police are currently looking into what led to the bodybuilder’s lake drowning. They said:
‘The police were notified by the administrator of a lake about a deceased person.
‘Upon arrival at the scene, the police found that a 30-year-old man, while fishing on a lake in Lazuri, had been found drowned.
‘Investigations are underway to establish precisely all the circumstances of the event.’
At the National Fitness and Bodybuilding Championship, Stefanescu, who represented Romania in the Classic Bodybuilding over 180 cm category, won the 80 kg division. He was working as a fitness trainer in his hometown of Targoviste when he passed away. Stefanescu was a married man and is survived by his wife and children.
