On Friday, SG Alpine Warriors clashed against Balan Alaskan Knights and after an intense contest, Alpine Warriors won 9-7. During this contest, reigning rapid & blitz world champion Magnus Carlsen played against Ian Nepomniachtchi to mark his debut in the Global Chess League. Although this game finished quickly after the players settled for a draw, the other matches proved to be pretty exciting.
In another match, Chingari Gulf Titans clashed versus Triveni Continental Kings and Wei Yi’s resounding victory resulted in the maiden victory for the Continental Kings. During the second-half of Friday, Alpine Warriors played against Ganges Grandmasters as fans witnessed the epic clash featuring Anand vs. Carlsen. Despite best efforts from the Indian legend, Carlsen emerged victorious thanks to his aggressive play. However, Ganges Grandmasters managed to achieve 11-6 win and stay at the top of the tournament standings.

Global Chess League 2023: prize money & participants list
It is reported that the 2023 Global Chess League will award a total of $1,000,000 in prizes, of which the champion team will receive around $500,000. Meanwhile, the runner-up team’s winner will bag $250,000. Additionally, each player from the winning team will earn $7,500 and the manager will bag $5,000.
