Haber participated in youth basketball leagues and will be at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn on Thursday night as a member of the 2023 draft class. The video he made on TikTok announcing his incredible draft status has received 3.1 million views. Haber said:

I am now Jordan Haber, member of the 2023 NBA draft class, uh, soon to be undrafted class.”

A narrative that looks too fantastic to be true, yet is, in fact, true. So, how exactly did this happen?

The Jordan Haber draft loophole

Jordan Haber recently graduated from the University of Florida School of Law, where he essentially did nothing but study. He displayed the NBA’s collective bargaining agreement while claiming to enjoy reading random legal texts.

The avid Miami Heat fan looks to be crossing items off a bucket list at the time, given that he will really be allowed to attend the match at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn. A few ambitious basketball players and future legends may come into contact with him.

In this case, Haber deviates from the norm once more. All he wants is a photo with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. However, how did he actually enter the draft? Even so, is it legal?

The only stipulation in the CBA that Haber was successful in meeting was that a player’s high school graduation must have occurred at least one NBA season prior. He made a bet with his friends before the draft. After completing the NBA’s provided documents and emailing them back, Haber was deemed draft eligible.

A person is eligible for the draft if they meet the requirements of Article X, Section 1 (b)(i) and (ii), which state that they must be “at least nineteen (19) years of age during the calendar year in which the Draft is held, and… at least one (1) NBA Season has elapsed since the player’s graduation from high school” and “has graduated from a four-year college or university in the United States (or is to graduate in the calendar year in which the Draft is held.

Haber has amassed a following of 96,000 on his TikTok account, where he updates his supporters on his daily journey. He has also stated that a documentary about the strange encounter is in the works.
