According to reports, the collision happened around the fifth stage of the ongoing Tour de Suisse.
Magnus Sheffield and Gino Mäder crash
According to the report by the organizers of the Tour de Suisse race, the crash between the two cyclists happened around 200 kilometers into the competition. The two cyclists were on their way to La Punt, where the stage came to a close. While descending down the Albula Pass American racer Magnus Sheffield and Mäder crashed violently with each other.
Organizers reported that Mäder fell into a ravine and was eventually discovered lifeless in the water. Medical officials managed to revive him and flew him out by an air ambulance to a hospital in the city of Chur.
Mäder’s team Bahrain Victorious revealed in a statement:
On Friday 16th June, following a very serious crash during stage 5 of the Tour de Suisse, Gino lost his battle to recover from the severe injuries he sustained. Our entire team is devastated by this tragic accident, and our thoughts and prayers are with Gino’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”

The organizers of the Tour de Suisse also revealed a statement on his condition. According to the statement, Magnus Sheffield was awake and speaking. They further revealed that Magnus had a concussion and suffered bruises. Officials have taken him to the Samedan hospital where he is currently being treated.
