The India U-17 Men’s National Team will face off against the FC Augsburg U-17 in Augsburg, Germany, on Friday, May 26, 2023 as part of a training game.
The upcoming game will be India’s third training match as they undergo their preparatory camp in Germany.
India U-17 undergoing extensive training camp
The India U-17 team are currently undergoing an extensive training camp in preparations for the upcoming AFC U-17 Asian Cup. The highly anticipated tournament is set to take place next month in Thailand. Before arriving in Stuttgart, Germany on May 16, team India camped in Spain for a month.
Since arriving, India have played two games in Stuttgart. The have played against a mix of U-16 and U-19 boys from VFB Stuttgart (1-3) and SSV Reutlingen U-16 (6-1).
Ahead of the upcoming match, India head coach Bibiano Fernandes stated:
We have had a few days to train after our last game, and we’re ready for our last two matches here in Germany”.
After the two matches in Stuttgart, the Blue Colts have arrived in Augsburg to complete their last week of their training in Germany. The team have also attended a number of Bundesliga games.
Fernandes shared:
We have had a fruitful time in Germany. The facilities have been fantastic, and the boys have learnt a lot from different sessions given by the coaches in Stuttgart”.
India U-17 vs FC Augsburg U-17 kick off time
The upcoming match between India U-17 vs FC Augsburg U-17 is set to kick off at 8.30 pm IST. Prior to the match, the India U-17 players arrived in Augsburg on Thursday, and are all set to play their first game against their hosts today.
Head coach Fernandes, shared:
Augsburg are of course one of the top clubs in Europe, and we expect their U-17 team to be of a very high standard as well. It will be a good game, but the boys are improving every day.”
Next upcoming fixtures
Following their match with Augsburg, the Blue Colts will leave Germany and head to Thailand. They will have just two weeks prior to the AFC U-17 Asian Cup, for more training and acclimatisation. Team India are placed in Group D and will face Vietnam (June 17), Uzbekistan (June 20), and Japan (June 23).
