In a pre-quarterfinal match on Thursday, double Olympic medalist PV Sindhu easily defeated Japan’s Aya Ohori 21-16, 21-11 in 40 minutes. Following this result, it is confirmed that Sindhu will face Zhang Yi Man of China to determine who qualifies for the semi-final of the Kuala Lumpur tournament. Prannoy defeated Chinese All England champion Li Shi Feng in the second-round of the BWF World Tour Super 500 match, coming from behind to win 13-21, 21-16, 21-11. On Friday, he will compete against Kenta Nishimoto of Japan in the quarterfinal.

Lakshya Sen, however, was eliminated from the current Malaysia Masters 2023 on Thursday after losing to Angus Ng Ka Long of Hong Kong. With a spectacular performance, Angus Ng Ka Long defeated Indian youngster Sen 21-14, 21-19. Following these results, it is confirmed that only three Indian shuttlers have qualified for the quarterfinal of the 2023 Malaysia Masters across all categories.

2023 Malaysia Masters: prize money distribution

Each singles category winner of the Malaysia Masters, a BWF Super 500 tournament, will receive $31,500 in prize money from the $420,000 total prize pool. The singles runner-up will receive $15,960, while the losers of each singles semifinal match will only receive $6,090 each.
