2023 Los Angeles Grand Prix competition preview and stars to watch
Armand ‘Mondo’ Duplantis, the world-record holder and gold medallist pole vaulter is one of the key stars in action at the upcoming tournament. Meanwhile, Sha’Carri Richardson, the fastest woman this season over the 100m, will also be in action on Friday 26 and Saturday 27 May.
Duplantis is one of the few athletics superstars who will be looking to open their outdoor season. The Swede international ended his indoor campaign with a new pole vault record by clearing 6.22m. He won the All Star Perche 2023 event in the process, which was held in Clermont-Ferrand, France, last February.
Richardson meanwhile is coming off an exceptional form this season, with a time of 10.76 seconds in the 100m. She did this while claiming victory at the Diamond League event in Doha and later a win in the 200m at the Kip Keino Classic in Nairobi.
The US sprinter will compete in the upcoming competition alongside fellow compatriot Aleia Hobbs, Ivorian Marie-Josee Ta Lou, and Jamaica’s 4×100 Olympic champion Briana Williams.
Other notable stars include Ryan Crouser, Knighton and Kenneth Bednarek in the 200m race, Christian Coleman and Ronnie Baker in the 100m race, reigning world champion Tobi Amusan and Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn in the women’s 100m hurdles.
