The FIFA Under-20 World Cup is a biennial tournament last held in 2019, since the 2021 edition got cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Moreover, the 2023 edition was originally set to be held in Indonesia, however, FIFA strip the tournament from Indonesia in March 2023 and chose Argentina.
Indonesia’s refusal to welcome Israel’s squad due to strained diplomatic relations led to FIFA’s harsh actions.
FIFA 2023 Under-20 World Cup favourites
Going into the tournament, France, Brazil, Italy, and England are among the favorites to win the 2023 edition. Despite originally failing to qualify from South America Argentina were slotted in as the new host nation. Sadly, defending champions Ukraine failed to qualify for the 2023 tournament. Ukraine fell during the second stage of European qualifying following a tiebreaker.
2023 FUFA Under-20 World Cup format
The 2023 FIFA Under-20 World Cup will feature 24 nations who qualified via tournaments held in their respective regions. The participating nations come from across the different continents – Asia (4 spots), Africa (4), North America (4), South America (4), Oceania (2), and Europe (5). Argentina is participating as the host nation.
Ahead of the start of the tournament, FIFA divided the 24 countries into groups A-F. The teams were divided via a group-stage draw held on April 21, 2023. The competition is currently in the group stages form where the top two teams in each group, along with the four best third-place finishers will advance to the next round, which is the Round of 16.

The tournament will host 52 matches across four cities in Argentina: Mendoza, La Plata, Santiago del Estero, and San Juan. The final match is set to take place in La Plata’s Estadio Unico on Sunday, June 11.
