On day two, Brecel surged away in the afternoon, putting himself at 15-10 and three frames from victory. He increased his advantage to 16-10 before Selby attempted another comeback. The Leicester cueist fought back to within 16-15 and looked to be in control, but he stopped, allowing Brecel to win 18-15 and take the snooker world by storm with breaks of 51 & an incredible 112.
Luca Brecel overcame legendary Mark Selby 18-15 in the final to become the first player from mainland Europe to win the Cazoo World Championship. His important attributes were his exceptional natural flair and incredible composure under pressure. After winning the Championship League at the beginning of the season, Brecel now holds his fourth ranking crown. With the top prize of £500,000, which is by far the largest of his career, he moves up to second place in the global rankings, only behind O’Sullivan, who ends the season as the top player.

2023 Snooker World Championship: prize money distribution
Luca Brecel will get compensation totaling £500,000 from the $2,395,000 prize pool as the competition’s winner, and Mark Selby will receive compensation totaling £200,000 as the competition’s runner-up. For losing in the semifinals, Si Jiahui and Mark Allen will each receive £100,000 in prize money.
