Murphy says that the group accidentally drove up to a house on Patterson Hill Road, which was 19 miles northeast of Gillis’ home in Schuylerville. As they tried to turn the car around, Monahan got out of his house and fired two shots, one of which hit Gillis while she was sitting in the car. Murphy said that no one in the group had left the car or tried to get into Monahan’s house before he came out and started shooting.
Gillis was hurt, so the group drove to Cemetery Road in the nearby town of Salem, which was six miles south of Monahan’s home. There, they called 911 to report the shooting.
Arrest made in fatal shooting of Saratoga county woman
When help came, CPR was started on Gillis. While that was going on, someone else called the police to say that shots had been fired at the house on Patterson Hill Road. When the police came, Monahan wouldn’t come out. Before he was taken into arrest, the police talked to him for about an hour over the phone and in person.
The sheriff’s office said in a news statement that Monahan didn’t help with the investigation and wouldn’t leave his house to talk to police. After a few hours, he was taken into arrest with the help of the New York State Police Special Operation Response Team.
No clear motive in fatal shooting of Saratoga County Woman
A law enforcement source said that they don’t think alcohol or mental illness had anything to do with the killing. At the time of the killing, Monahan’s housemate was there. On Monday, he called her, but she didn’t answer right away.
The sheriff wouldn’t say what kind of gun police think was used to kill the person. Monahan is in the Warren County jail at the moment. The Washington County Court will hear his case at a later date.
The sheriff said that sending Monahan to the Warren County jail was a matter of doing things the right way. According to public records, Gillis’s father works at the Washington County jail as a corrections officer.
Gillis went to Schuylerville High School and graduated in 2021. Monday night, the school district put out a statement saying that students and workers could talk to school counsellors.

The shooting happened just days after a 16-year-old Kansas City boy was shot and hurt when he rang the bell at the wrong house to pick up his brothers.
There is a GoFundMe page to help Gillis’ family. “As many of you know, Kaylin Gillis was taken from us far too soon tragically and devastatingly at the age of 20,” the GoFundMe’s description says. “We have set this up to raise money for Angel and Andy’s family, to help with funeral and other expenses. Please consider donating any amount you can to assist at this time.”
