Mendoza did not have a good start in the fight as the taller Fundora, who came into the contest ranked No. 3 by The Ring, easily outboxed Mendoza, who preferred to fight close-range. By the third round, Mendoza had become enmeshed in Fundora’s struggle. Inflicting punishment on Mendoza with many uppercuts to the head that started to bruise Mendoza’s face, Fundora was more effective from the inside.

Early in the fifth round, Mendoza successfully connected with a straight right hand to the head and a left uppercut, but Fundora continued to outbox Mendoza. Although Fundora banked another round in his favor in the sixth, Mendoza was able to make a connection early in the seventh round. When Fundora was knocked out by a left hook, Mendoza followed up with his right cross & left hook to drop Fundora and clinch the victory through KO.
