The 2023 Asian Wrestling Championships will be held in Astana, Kazakhstan, from April 9 to April 14.

In addition to acting as the yearly regional championship, this year’s Asian tournament will be significant in terms of qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The number of wrestlers that each country can send to the 2023 World Wrestling Championships, which will take place in Belgrade in September, will be determined by the Astana meet, even though it is not a direct qualifier for Paris 2024.

The wrestling world championships will be the first event to earn a spot in Paris 2024.

A total of 30 wrestlers from India have been named, with 10 wrestlers each for the women’s, men’s freestyle, and Greco-Roman classifications.

Japan, China, and the hosts, Kazakhstan, along with other Asian superpowers, have all done this.

As a result, they have a better chance of getting chosen for Paris 2024 because they can send 30 wrestlers to the World Championships.

Two further Asian nations, Iran and Kyrgyzstan, have also named a sizable squad. As China makes its four-year absence from the Asian Championships official, it is expected to pose a serious challenge to Indian wrestlers in Astana.

Due to an injury, three-time defending Asian champion and Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Ravi Kumar Dahiya will miss the Astana tournament, while other well-known competitors including Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat, and Sakshi Malik have opted not to compete.

The Indian team will compete at the Asian Wrestling Championships in 2023 as a result of selection trials held in New Delhi last month.

The men’s freestyle and Greco-Roman matches of the Asian Wrestling Championships 2023 have both been shifted to Astana from their original locations in New Delhi, India.
