Watch: “Serbian Gypsy,” Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic Faces Racial Abuse By Atalanta Fans

Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic became the latest player in Italy to encounter racial abuse with him being called a gypsy by Atalanta fans

Despite the ongoing worldwide campaigns against racism, one country which has failed to see any kind of turnaround is Italy. Racism is ingrained in a section of the society, an innate hate which has come to the fore on a string of occasions.

Over the years, a slew of black colored players have been subjected to diatribe by the fans in attendance at Serie A matches. The most recent incident involved the Napoli triad of Kalidou Koulibaly, Victor Osimhen and Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa with all three slandered by Fiorentina supporters.

Dusan Vlahovic Called Gypsy By Atalanta Supporters

For Fiorentina, the antics of their supporters make for bemusing viewing after one of their own was belittled by Atalanta fans. Footage has come out of Dusan Vlahovic being called a gypsy by the Atalanta supporters in Florence after his match winning display against the club, one which saw him score twice.

The chant was in reference to Dusan hailing from outside Italy, a jibe which alluded towards the horrid mentality which continues to riddle a solid amount of football watching audience in the country.

Fiorentina President Rocco Commisso went onto slam the incident with him saying, “I didn’t like what they did, two years ago I took it out on Dalbert with racist chants, this year with Dusan Vlahovic to whom they told while doing the interview that he is a gypsy.”

Wonder why he’s decided to stay mum and not lash out at his own club’s supporters after they ended up mocking Napoli’s players and called Koulibaly a f**king monkey.
