Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the 2022 Asian Games was postponed to 23rd September, 2023 and as the date draws closer, we examine the Indian contingent for this event. As of now, 259 players have qualified and hopefully by the start of tournament, India’s participant count will surpass last edition’s total.

2022 Asian Games: Indian squad, qualified players, & full contingent details

From September 23 trough October 8, China’s Hangzhou will host the Asian Games and it is confirmed that this edition, 40 sports will be featured at the 15-day continental championship. India has a long history at the quadrennial competition, and over the last two decades, Indian participation at the Asian Games has significantly increased. For the 2018 Asian Games Jakarta, India sent 570 athletes in order to compete in 36 different sports. Given the increase in medal events this year, Indian participation in the various categories is anticipated to increase at the Asian Games in 2022.

According to latest information, 259 Indian competitors have qualified including 127 women for 13 different sports and 73 distinct events. However, this number will likely increase in the upcoming days

Know qualified Indian players for 2022 Asian Games

For the Asian Games, Mary Kom has decided to skip her participation and hence, India’s boxing medal hopes will be carried by Olympic medalist Lovlina Borgohain and world champion Nikhat Zareen. At the Asian Games 2022, esports make their debut, and medals will be given out in eight games. India’s 16-person esports team will participate in five games after being chosen through the National Esports Championships.
