Indian ace PV Sindhu had won all of her seven clashes against Tunjung prior to their summit confrontation in Madrid and hence, the Indian was considered the overwhelming favorite on Sunday. However, Tunjung defeated Sindhu in the Madrid Spain Masters final to snap her losing streak against the Indian superstar. From the very beginning of the match, Tunjung outclassed her rival before recording straight-set victory by score of 21-8, 21-8 and become the champion of 2023 Madrid Spain Masters.
Japanese player Kenta Nishimoto won his first championship of the 2023 BWF World Tour by defeating fellow countryman Kanta Tsuneyama in the men’s singles final. In the women’s doubles final, Liu Shengshu & Tan Ning of China defeated compatriot pair Chen Fanghui & Du Yue by the virtue of an exciting 21-8, 16-21, 21-18 triumph.
