Olmar was leaning over on the table and he was drunk. The messenger takes advantage of the situation to mock Olmar for his incapacity to chop a pig and his humiliation by the King’s guard. The insults push him over the line, and he takes his sword and orders him to do the same. Thorgil orders him to rise, and destroy him if he intends on fighting back.
He informs Olmar that there are only two ways to respond to an attack. It is to murder or die, and if today is not the day he dies, then he will become a man. As he prepares to oppose Olmar’s strike, he is blinded by a coin thrown by the public. Then, Olmar slashes him clean through the neck, earning his first kill. Thorgil takes care of the other of his comrades’ attempts at retaliation. While Thorgil cleans up the soldiers behind him, Olmar sits in shock.
