Padikkal was born in Edappal, Kerala to Ambili Padikkal and Babu Kunnath. He completed his schooling at Amry Public School, Bangalore, and then at St. Joseph’s Boys High School, Bangalore. After completing school, Padikkal studied at St. Joseph’s College of Commerce, Bangalore.
In 2011, his family relocated from Hyderabad to Bangalore, where he started preparing at the Karnataka Institute of Cricket. Beginning in 2014, he played for Karnataka in both U-16 as well as U-19 format. In 2017, he was chosen by Bellary Tuskers in the Karnataka Premier League.
He made a top-notch debut for Karnataka in the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy on 28 November 2018. In December 2018, he was purchased by the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2019 auction. He created a record of being the first person to score three half-centuries in the first four games in the IPL.
Cricket Career, Teams, Runs, Stats
He made his A-List appearance on 26 September 2019, for Karnataka in the 2019–20 Vijay Hazare Trophy. He scored 609 runs in just eleven matches, thus being the highest run-scorer in the tournament. In October 2019, he was included in India A’s crew for the 2019–20 Deodhar Trophy. His T20 debut took place on 8 November 2019, for Karnataka in the 2019–20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He has also represented India in the U-19 squad.
Padikkal won the Emerging Player Award for the 2020 IPL, playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore. He scored 473 runs in 15 appearances for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in his first IPL season. He was chosen in Karnataka’s squad for the 2021 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. On 22 April 2021, in the 2021 IPL season, Padikkal scored 101 not out, as the Royal Challengers Bangalore beat the Rajasthan Royals by ten wickets.
In June 2021, he was named in India’s ODI and Twenty20 International squad for their series against Sri Lanka. He made his T20I debut on 28 July 2021, for India against Sri Lanka.
IPL RCB Contract And Salary Of Devdutt Padikkal
Devdutt Padikkal was purchased by the RCB for the IPL 2019 season. He was signed for 20 lakh INR at the auction. Since RCB has retained him for the last two years, there has not been an increase in his salary. So his IPL 2021 season salary remains 20 lakh INR. So far, Devdutt Padikkal has earned 60 lakh INR by representing the RCB for three years. Sponsorship deals have not been included in this amount.
