As the main draw of the WTT Star Contender Goa 2023 got underway at the Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium in Panaji on Wednesday, Manika Batra led the Indian charge with three victories across all formats.

2023 WTT Star Contender Goa day 3 winners, score, fourth day schedule, & prize money pool distribution
In the morning session, Korean pair Jaehyun An & Seungmin Cho defeated Sharath Kamal & G Sathiyan 3-1 in the men’s doubles round-of-16 by score of 11-6, 11-7, 7-11, 11-8. In the day’s last match, emerging Kazakh star Kirill Gerassimenko defeated the current Commonwealth Games champion Sharath Kamal in straight sets by score of 11-8, 11-7, 11-8. Manika Batra, the top-ranked Indian in women’s singles, got things going early in the opening session by defeating Englishwoman Ho Tin-Tin by score of 3-0 (11-4, 11-8, 11-5).
Later in in the day, Manika Batra & G Sathiyan defeated Lim Jonghoon & Shin Yubin of Korea in the mixed doubles, winning 3-1 (11-7,3-11,11-6,11-6) to qualify for the quarterfinal. Prior to winning her first doubles match with Ayhika Mukherjee, Sutirtha Mukherjee defeated her countrywoman Suhana Saini in the first-round of women’s singles by score of 11-7, 11-7, 8-11. Meanwhile, Indian ace G Sathiyan won his first-round men’s singles clash against Harmeet Desai by score of 11-4, 10-12, 13-11, 11-9.
In the women’s singles, in addition to Suhana, two other young Indian players lost their round of 64 matches. Yashaswini Ghorpade lost 0-3 to Japan’s Miyu Nagasaki, who is ranked 38th in the world. Sreeja Akula lost 1-3 to Hana Goda of Egypt, who was rated higher than her at No. 39 in the world.
