Tim McCarver was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on October 16, 1941. He went to Christian Brothers High School there. In 1959, he joined the St. Louis Cardinals of Major League Baseball, where he spent 20 years playing the game he loved. During his playing career, McCarver was named an All-Star twice and won two World Series titles, in 1964 and 1967.
Tim McCarver is a retired American baseball catcher, who went on to become a successful broadcaster and was married to Anne McDaniel. McCarver’s death was announced by baseball’s Hall of Fame, which said he died Thursday morning due to heart failure in Memphis, Tennessee, where he was with his family with him leaving behind a net worth of $10 million.

After he stopped playing baseball in 1980, Tim McCarver became a sportscaster and spent the next almost 50 years sharing his knowledge and love of the game with fans all over the country. He did colour commentary for CBS, ABC, and NBC, and for 18 years he was the main baseball analyst for Fox Sports.
After nine years as a part-time analyst for St. Louis Cardinals games on Fox Sports Midwest and Bally Sports Midwest, Tim McCarver’s career in broadcasting came to an end last year. Even though he was healthy until the day he died, his broadcasting career went downhill for a number of reasons, including the advice of his doctor to avoid travel and riskier situations during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tim McCarver’s health started to decline
McCarver told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch in July 2020, when he was 78 years old, that his doctor had told him not to work, but not because he was already sick. Instead, he said it was because of the travel and “the obvious things.” Even after this setback, McCarver continued to care about his health and well-being. He used “common sense” to stay healthy.

Both McCarver’s coworkers and fans have sent their condolences and talked about their favourite memories of the sportscaster. Bob Costas, who has worked with McCarver for a long time at NBC, CBS, and Fox Sports, wrote on Twitter, “Baseball and broadcasting have lost a giant with the passing of Tim McCarver.ย One of a kind.”
Bill DeWitt Jr., the owner of the St. Louis Cardinals, also made a statement, saying, “Tim was one of the game’s all-time greats, and he was a cherished member of the Cardinals family. He will be deeply missed.”
