Nico Rosberg believes Valtteri Bottas docile nature was behind Lewis Hamilton naming him as his best ever team-mate

After the news came in of Valtteri Bottas switching to Alfa Romeo for the 2022 Formula 1 season, the much awaited George Russell move to Mercedes for next year was finally confirmed. While Williams are yet to name their replacement for Russell, its widely being envisaged that Alex Albon will be taking over from him.

Ensuing the merry-go-round, one which was envisaged ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton both bid adieu to Bottas and ushered in Russell as his partner for 2022. The Brit took to Twitter to bid an emotional farewell to Bottas with whom he’s won four Constructors’ Championships in the five years the two have been together.

Nico Rosberg Disagrees With Valtteri Bottas Being The Best Team-Mate Lewis Hamilton Had

However, its a message which hasn’t gone down too well with Hamilton’s previous counterpart, Nico Rosberg. Speaking about the relationship between Hamilton and Bottas since Bottas took over the second Hamilton seat in 2017, Rosberg went onto claim that the two shared a solid comradery due to Bottas being willing to play second fiddle to Hamilton.

“Bottas was super useful,” Rosberg said, speaking at a sponsors’ event at the Dutch Grand Prix last weekend.

“He never beat Lewis and they were super chill. That’s why Lewis says he (Bottas) was his favourite team-mate of all time.

‘I wanted to write (under the Instagram post), “what about me?” Rosberg went onto continue. Rosberg had defeated Lewis Hamilton once for the world championship title before retiring while Hamilton had managed to outdo him on two occasions. Things had often been far from cordial between the two as they both pushed for the glistening title.
