Mercedes’ Team Principal, Toto Wolff has lauded the nature of Zandvoort despite it being improbable to overtake on the track

The last couple of days have been a testament to the tricky nature of Zandvoort. With as many as six red flags during both Friday and Saturday, the Dutch Grand Prix has stayed true to its nature of making for an intoxicating brew.

The circuit which has been redesigned since it was last used in 1985 in the land of Formula has despite the string of stoppages being largely appreciated. Its high-speed nature and banked corners have made it a true test of a driver’s guile and expertise despite overtaking making for an almost improbable task at the venue.

Toto Wolff Talks Up Zandvoort Ahead Of The Dutch Grand Prix 2021

Mercedes’ Team Principal, Toto Wolff has thrown his weight behind Zandvoort as well with him talking about how the circuit was the ideal location to race at. He talked about how both Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas were both besotted by the true nature of the track, one Wolff refereed to as being challenging and fast, a circuit where mistakes were penalised.

“I think it’s a blueprint for all the new tracks that come up to look at the classical tracks. They can still race, and we are still reaching the same safety standards as all the new tracks.

“So let’s look at all these fantastic venues and take the best out of them, and when you look at the onboards you pee in your pants,” Wolff said about Zandvoort.

Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen will be alongside each other when race day gets underway on Sunday with Verstappen taking pole during qualifying on Saturday infront of a rapturous home crowd.
