Hybe’s Recent Girl Group Success: A Glance

K-pop fans who have been following the record labels for some time are aware of the legend surrounding “HYBE’s girl group curse” and how 2022 played a key role in dispelling the legend thanks to the success of New Jeans and Le Sserafim.

New Jeans

New Jeans quickly gained notoriety as the most talked-about K-pop group thanks to their unexpected debut and infectious sounds. With their song Hype Boy, they even succeeded in outperforming the Billboard Hot 100 hit song Butter by Grammy-nominated BTS in terms of Korean streaming popularity.

Hype Boy by New Jeans, which received 5.899 million streams as of January 17, 2023, is now the most streamed song on Spotify in South Korea. Butter by BTS has been replaced; there are currently 5.895 million streams of it.

Le SSERAFIM

Le Sserafim’s debut wasn’t easy to navigate because one of the band’s (now ex-) members became embroiled in a bullying scandal at school. However, she demonstrated the potential to become a global K-pop star after Haram left because their second EP, Antifragile, was a big success everywhere it was released, including at the top of Billboard’s US World Albums chart.
