Despite his winning position throughout the match, world title challenger Ding came within millimeters of defeating Parham Maghsoodloo, the match ended in a tie thanks to some masterful endgame play, a trend that persisted throughout the rest of the round’s draws. In the highlight game of day-2, Anish Giri managed to earn a hard-fought victory against Indian prodigy Gukesh, who was unfortunate to lose his second consecutive clash.

Beyond Giri’s victory, grinding endgames were a recurring theme in round two, and it came as little surprise that the world champion was able to achieve his first victory on Sunday in a great endgame against the burgeoning youngster Keymer. Despite playing Abdusattorov in an unfavorable position, Fabiano Caruana demonstrated his mastery of endgame strategy in round two and secured a tie. The round’s remaining results consist of regulation draws on the remaining boards while four distinct leaders—Carlsen, Ding, Abdusattorov, & Giri—have emerged.
