Starring Abhay Deol and Rajshri Deshpande, the series will follow the heart-breaking journey of 2 parents, Shekhar and Neelam after their two children die in a devastating fire. The unspeakable loss spurs their quest for finding the answers and seeks justice for the loss that they suffered after their children, Unnati and Ujjawal.
Trial by Fire story
Trial By Fire is based on the horrific true story of the Uphaar Cinema fire which took place on the 13th of June in 1997. The infamous incident saw a fire break out at the Uphaar Cinema situation nearby Green Park, New Delhi during a 3 pm show of the film Border which was caused by a malfunctioning electrical transformer that had not been properly maintained.
A total number of 59 people died in that incident while another 103 people were majorly injured it was a stampede as people panicked and then attempted to escape as the fire quickly spread.
Following the disaster, all families of the victims formed, The Association of Victims of Uphaar Fire Tragedy and filed a landmark civil compensation case against the owners of the cinema, brothers Gopal and Sushil Ansal.
In February 2017, ‘Gopal Ansal was sentenced to one year in jail while his brother Sushil did not have to face further sentencing due to his old age,’ according to the Indian Express.
However, as the Fiction Horizon reports in 2021, ‘Delhi courts later on sentenced both brothers to 7 years in prison for tampering with evidence related to the case.’
