At the 95th Academy Awards, Jason Grosboll of the Corpus Christi Century 16 Theatre was invited by the late-night host to serve popcorn. On his show on Wednesday night, Kimmel made a point to acknowledge Jason Grosboll, aka the Popcorn Guy. Over the weekend, the long-time theatre employee became famous after being caught on camera demonstrating how to prepare the ideal bag of buttery popcorn.
Kimmel asked him how he felt about being “the supreme popcorn,” Grosboll replied, “It feels incredible. It never occurred to me that it would reach this point.” In the theatre, Grosboll added, fans of the video now recognise him and frequently approach him to take pictures and record him.
Grosboll was requested by Kimmel to serve popcorn at the Oscars ceremony he is hosting on March 12 after a brief live TV demonstration of his deft buttering technique. The audience applauded as Kimmel continued, “If you’re interested, we could certainly use the world’s finest popcorn bucket filler at the Dolby Theatre.”
