2022 FIDE World Rapid Chess Championship Day 1 Results, Upcoming Schedule, Date, Time, Venue, Draw, & List of Participants

After inaugural day of matches in open event, reigning world champion Magnus Carlsen has amassed 4.5 points from maximum total five. Following his stellar run, Carlsen is sharing the lead with Vladimir Fedoseev, Jorden van Foreest, & Arjun Erigaisi, who have each scored 4.5/5 points. However, Carlsen will lament missing the chance to win against Indian prodigy Arjun Erigaisi, which cost him 100% win record.

In the highlight match of opening day, reigning champion Nodirbek Abdusattorov failed to replicate his famous win from last year’s tournament against Carlsen and allowed the Norwegian to bag comfortable victory. Among other standout matches, Anish Giri clashed against Jan-Krzysztof Duda ferociously before agreeing to a draw. Following results from Tuesday, Indian youngster Nihal Sarin is sitting at seventh-place with 4/5 points.

During round six matches on Wednesday, Fedoseev will face-off against Erigaisi and Carlsen will clash against Van Foreest Jorden with leadership of open division at stake. FIDE World Rapid Chess Championship will be played in the Baluan Sholak Sports Palace in Almaty, Kazakhstan, from December 26 to December 28.
