There have been a host of cricketing superstars who have enriched the Indian Premier League with their presence. Be it International legends like Adam Gilchrist, Daniel Vettori etc or Indian cricketing gods like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly etc. Fanatics have seen it all in the IPL from last ball championship triumph, to a player scoring more than 800 runs in a single season.
Talking upon the same, to rank among the best in the world is always an accomplishment in itself, especially with the bat. Having not included the stats of the on-going IPL 2021 edition, lets take a look at the top 5 leading run getters in the history of the IPL.
IPL Top Run Scorer
5- Shikhar Dhawan
Not always been recognized as the primary run getter for his IPL franchise, Shikhar Dhawan has majorly been found under the radar. Shikhar Dhawan has scored 5197 runs at an average of 34.5 in his IPL career, opening the innings, including 2 centuries and 41 fifties.
Not only that, Dhawan’s role was pivotal in making Delhi Capitals reach the IPL Finals in 2020 as he scored two back-to-back centuries in pressured games to make DC reach in the playoffs.
4- Rohit Sharma
How great it is to see, both Indian openers in the list of top 5 leading run getters in IPL’s history? Although he might be outranked in this elite list, but his captaincy needs no words of appreciation. Having led Mumbai Indians from the front, he has scored 5230 runs in 195 innings.
Not only has he led the Mumbai Indians to 5 IPL Titles, but has forged a team around India’s premier T20I players.

Known for his explosive and aggressive start to the innings, Warner over the years has composed himself to play an even bigger role for Sunrisers Hyderabad, which has led him to inspire his team to regular playoff spots since 2016.
2- Suresh Raina
One of the best T20 players India has ever seen, Suresh Raina holds the ability to not only send all 6 balls of the over, past the boundary, but also play an innings under the strike rate 100 to lead his team to victory. He is Chennai Super Kings leading run scorer and has scored 5368 runs in the IPL so far at an average of over 33.
Although he did not feature in the 2020 edition of the IPL in UAE, he still was able to retain his position in the Top 2.
1-Virat Kohli
Not only is he leading team India in all 3 formats, but he gives plenty of reasons to doing so. Virat Kohli has scored 5878 runs in just 184 innings in the IPL. He is the only active Indian Player to have ever played for a single franchise since the beginning.
