Playing Career
Before moving on to Syracuse to play collegiate basketball for four seasons under Jim Boeheim, Louie was a high school basketball star in the Cincinnati region. Following Cuse, Orr entered the NBA Draft and was chosen by the Pacers in the second round. Louis stayed at Indiana for two seasons.
In New York, Orr picked up playing professionally again, spending six seasons with the Knicks. Patrick Ewing, with whom Louis later coached at Georgetown, was a teammate. Over the course of his NBA career, Orr averaged roughly 10 points and 4 rebounds per game.
Orr is survived by his wife Yvette and their two children, Monica and Chauncey and was also a grandfather to two boys. His net worth stood at $2 million.
Orr’s family said Friday in a statement through Georgetown that he died after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Coaching Career
Early in the 1990s, Louis began his coaching career as an assistant coach, making stints at Xavier, Providence, and his alma mater, Syracuse, for JB. Throughout his coaching career, Orr went on to hold the position of head coach at three college programmes. His first opportunity came in 2000, when he was appointed Siena’s head coach.
Siena was an outstanding 20-11 in just his first season. After that, Seton Hall hired Orr as their head coach. Orr guided the Pirates to an overall record of 80-69 over the course of the following five seasons. At Bowling Green University, he took the next step in his coaching career. It would be his longest run as an offensive coordinator. Orr attended Bowling Green for seven years. Orr collaborated to lead the Falcons to a cumulative 101-121 record during that time until he left the programme.
Since 2017, Orr and Patrick Ewing, a former New York Knicks teammate, have served as assistant coaches at Georgetown. His wife Yvette and their two children Monica and Chauncey are still alive.
Orr was 101–121 in seven seasons, including a record of 54–60 in the Mid-American Conference play.
Tributes pour in from all over the community.
The basketball community is in grief over the passing of Orr; former players, coaches, and teammates have all expressed their sorrow over the loss of a fine man in addition to a good coach.
“I am devastated to learn about Louis Orr’s demise. My first Syracuse recruit for the Knicks was as kind a guy as any NBA player, and we are sending our condolences to his family,” wrote Rick Pitino.
