Jamal Musiala Brief Bio
Jamal Musiala was originally born in Fulda, a central German city, located just northeast of Frankfurt. However, he spent most of his childhood in England, where he moved with his family when he was seven.
The 19-year-old attacking midfielder who has a height of 1.83m firstly spent four months with Southampton before Chelsea snapped him up. The London club signed him just one year after he arrived in the country with a scholarship. He currently plays for German club Bayern Munich, and has earned 20 caps for Germany and scored one goal.
He is currently single and doesn’t have a girlfriend. Musiala’s current deal, which expires in 2022, will be extended until 2025 and according to reports, the attacking midfielder’s new contract will net him around โฌ6 million per year.
Early Career
Jamal Musiala made swift progress after signing with Chelsea, making his U18 team at just 15 years, two months and 13 days. He started out on the international scene with the England U15 team at just 13-years-old. He continued playing with the Three Lions until U16 level.
Musiala then made his switch to his birth country Germany, playing for their U16 squad in October 2018. The young Munich star then featured again for the U17 and U21 level with England. However, he ultimately decided to focus his international future with Germany in early 2021.
Turning to his club career, Musiala joined Bayern in the summer 2019, at just 16-years-old. There, he first played as a member of Bayern’s U17 squad averaging a goal or assist every 105 minutes. He eventually got promoted to the U19s, before finally jumping to Bayern’s reserves right before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Professional Club Career And Stats
Following the resumption of the league after the pandemic, Musiala made his professional debut in the German third tier for Bayern’s second team. He finally got his senior start in the Bundesliga after coming off the bench on Matchday 33 against Freiburg. Musiala was just 17 years and 115 days old and became Bayern’s youngest-ever player in the Bundesliga.
He followed up that record by later becoming Bayernโs all-time youngest goalscorer at just 17 years and 205 days. Musiala then proceeded to score his first career brace during the 2021/22 DFB Cup first round. He eventually became the second youngest player to score seven top-flight goals behind Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz.
During this season, Musiala scored five goals and bagged five assists out of 30 Bundesliga outings. 18 of those appearances however, came from the bench, as Robert Lewandowski was still the main man in attack.
The following summer in 2022, the Polish striker moved to Barcelona leaving Musiala as the first choice going up front. So far, in the 2022/23 season, Musiala has started 12 of 14 games, racking up nine goals and six assists. He is currently Bayern’s top goalscorer and assist provider this season. To add the cherry on top, Musiala became the youngest Bayern player to reach 100 competitive games during the club’s final 2022 game against Schalke.
International Career
Musiala made his international debut for Germany under ex-coach Joachim Lรถw back in March 2021. Hansi Flick then rewarded Musiala with his first international start against Liechtenstein during the World Cup qualifiers.
He made the most of this game with an assist and then went on to become the second-youngest goalscorer in Germany national team history against North Macedonia. He was just ย 18 years and 227 days old. He was also the youngest German player ever to feature at a major tournament while playing during the UEFA Euro 2020.
The 19-year-old has been nothing short of phenomenal at the 2022 World Cup. Musiala both group games and almost scored a goal against Japan before putting eye-catching displays against Spain.
Similarities With Lionel Messi
There is long list of players who have been hyped as potential successors to Argentine legend Lionel Messi. However, by the looks of things, Musiala seems to be the best bet in living up to that hype.
The German international has excellent control on the ball in tight spaces similar to Messi’s skills with his left boot. Moreover, despite being predominately right-footed Musiala can opt to use his left when needed. Add to that, the young attacking midfielder has a powerful shot power.
Furthermore, his preferred position is the No.10 in behind the striker where he can demonstrate his world-class dribbling ability. Besides that, he can also play as a No.9 or even out wide on the flanks.
