History of PDC World Darts Championship, Format, & All Edition Details
The PDC was founded in 1992 by a few well-known players, including every BDO World Darts Championship champion who was still competing. With the World Champion taking home £200,000 in 2010, the prize pool finally topped £1 million.
For their victories, the PDC World Champions from 2014 and 2015 each received £250,000. The winner’s share increased to £50,000 each year for the following, with a £1.8 million prize fund in 2018. As of the 2019 season, the prize pool for the competition is set at £2.5 million, with £500,000 going to the victor. The PDC World Darts Championship was previously hosted at the Circus Tavern in Purfleet, Essex, from 1994 to 2007. It has subsequently moved to Alexandra Palace in London.
