Frank Tartaglia, a South Philadelphia filmmaker and co-owner of Connie’s Ric Rac, passed away at the age of 45. His first important picture received favourable reviews at the Philadelphia festival’s opening night, Family relatives acknowledged their shock at his sudden passing and said that he had been in good health and had been looking forward to the success of his new film. The Philadelphia Inquirer claims there is no known cause of death.
An online outpouring of grief and remembrances followed the passing of the writer, director, comedian, painter, singer, and art aficionado who first rose to popularity in the show business as a child performer. He received accolades for his unending creativity, his gentle nature, and his jovial manner as well as for his honesty regarding the challenges of pursuing a creative life and his unfailing support for others who pursued the same course.
Tributes pour in for the director.
On November 24, 2022, Pennsylvania Burial Company released a statement about Tartaglia’s passing. His passing occurs soon after that of his brother, Joseph Tartaglia, who passed away in 2013 at the age of 44 following a six-month fight with brain cancer.
According to Peter Pelullo, who co-owned the Ric Rac with Frank and Joseph Tartaglia, the enthusiasm, that energy, and colour he provided to the entire neighbourhood are irreplaceable. Throughout the pandemic in 2021, the club was permanently shuttered. There can never be another Frankie since his entire being was innovative. When he was still a teenager, Frank contributed to Squirt TV on MTV. The independent movie “Punctuality,” which Frank and Joseph both co-produced, was set in South Philadelphia. It was screened at film festivals.
A longtime friend and producer from Philadelphia, James Doolittle, described him as endlessly fascinating, full of humorous self-awareness and a never-ending knack for helping to brighten up the creative spark of hundreds of dreamers who strayed in and out of Connie’s Ric Rac over the years. Jordan Shapiro, who was his oldest childhood friend, remarked Frank as everyone’s best audience.
Tartaglia was mostly known as a filmmaker, but he was also the co-owner of Connie’s Ric Rac club alongside his brother Joseph and Peter and they received Ric Rac as a gift from their father, but it was shut down last year following the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tartaglia’s family has yet to issue a statement on his cause of death but the filmmaker was said to be healthy and not suffering from any ailments.
Born in 1977, he joined Bob Antonelli’s school of dance, where he learned to lip-sync and emerged as the winner of the Young Young Comedians Contest on HBO at the age of 11 and performed at Caroline’s Comedy Club. Tartaglia was also the winner of America’s Funniest People when he was 14 years old and later shifted to New York and worked on an MTV series, Squirt TV, with his friend; he was only 16 at the time.
