According to lI Gazzettino, the event near Montebello Vicentino in northern Italy resulted in Rebellin’s immediate death. Carlo Rebellin, Rebellin’s brother, arrived at the site after hearing of a bicycle accident on the road in the Montecchio region. He rushed to the accident spot right away and found his brother’s bike.

According to the outlet, the driver that struck Davide allegedly fled the scene and is yet to be identified.  The national police of Italy are looking for the offender right now. It is still unknown if the person knew they had hit and ultimately killed Rebellin.

Rebellin’s career

After turning pro, Rebellin represented his home nation at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona and went on to have a prosperous cycling career. In 2004, he won the Liège-Bastogne-Liège, La Fleche Wallonne, and Amstel Gold Race.

Rebellin’s career wasn’t without controversy, though; in 2008, his Olympic medal was taken away after a positive test for the blood-raising medication CERA. Later, he received a 2-year suspension due to the Italian Olympic Committee’s decision to disqualify him for doping.
