Mane just recently moved to Bayern Munich for £35million from Liverpool. However, Julian Nagelsmann will not be able to play the winger until the latter stages of the season now.
Sadio Mane Latest Injury Update
The Bayern Munich forward was initially named in Senegal’s World Cup squad. However, the latest injury updates reveal that Mane hopes of representing his country in Qatar will most likely not happen.
The 30-year-old has reportedly undergone a successful surgery, where doctors reattached a tendon to his right fibula’s head. Mane was originally expected to miss only the early stages of the international tournament. However, the injury has changed the whole scenario.
The former Liverpool star suffered a major knee injury during Bayern’s 6-1 win over Werder Bremen earlier this month. Senegal are facing a major blow due to Mane’s unavailability, as the nation were resting their hopes on Mane. Senegal are placed in group A and are set to face Ecuador, the Netherlands, and hosts Qatar.
Ben Dinnery Remarks On Mane Injury
Football injury expert Ben Dinnery believes that Sadio Mane will be out of action for three months after undergoing surgery. The surgery leaves the Senegalese forward’s leg in a brace.
However, Dinnery warned that Mane could be out for even longer if his rehabilitation plans do not go as planned. Dinnery was quoted as saying:
“They took the decision to go under the knife. After that surgery, the leg will be braced.
“Typically, we’re looking in the region of somewhere around 10-12 weeks and possibly even beyond that. In the region of three months is a good starting point, but it could extend a little bit beyond that.”
Expected Return Date
If Mane does indeed miss the next three months, his expected return date will most likely be around mid-February. This means that Mane will miss several key matches against the likes of RB Leipzig and could also possibly miss Bayern’s Champions League last 16 clash with Paris Saint-Germain.
Bayern are currently on a break from domestic football due to the World Cup. They are on top of the Bundesliga table with four points clear of SC Freiburg. The Bavarians will be looking to win another Bundesliga title in a few months.
Sadio Mane Stats
Ever since Sadio Mane moved from Liverpool to Munich during the summer, he has scored 11 goals while registering four assists in 23 outings.
According to statistics, Mane was Bayern’s fourth best performer during the Champion’s League group stage. He has an average match rating of 7.73 in the competition, with impressive underlying numbers as well.
FBref puts him in the 92nd and 91st percentiles for non-penalty goals and shots on target amongst other players in his position last year. Mane’s injury will definitely come as a major blow to Nagelsmann’s side besides his nation Senegal’s World Cup side.
