James Maddison Injury Update, Return Date, News And Status Ahead Of FIFA World Cup 2022
Maddison was injured during the match against West Ham.
The midfielder, who has had an outstanding Premier League season thus far, was included in Gareth Southgate’s side for Qatar on Thursday. After just eight minutes, he fired high into the net at the London Stadium to open the scoring in honour of his promotion.
But only 17 minutes after netting the goal, Maddison had to be replaced because he seemed to hurt his leg. The midfielder had just taken a corner when the Leicester medical staff had to lead him off as he started holding the back of his leg.
He was replaced by Dennis Praet, and Foxes manager Brendan Rodgers consoled Maddison as he made his way down the tunnel. Fortunately for England, Rodgers revealed that Maddison, 25, had merely been taken off as a precaution and was expected to be fine.
Injury update from Brendan Rodgers
“Maddison is okay. On the other side of his knee, he was bothered. There was therefore no muscular damage. He has just done a few lighter days of training since the Everton game. He was eager to give it a try, but caution was all that was needed.” They have made an effort to protect him because it is so challenging for athletes travelling to the World Cup, added Rodgers.
Maddison has impressed everyone to be in the World cup.
For the Three Lions, it is a tremendous relief because Southgate was forced to pick him because of his performances. The England manager praised Maddison for his performances for Leicester after announcing his inclusion in the team.
“Maddison has been doing a great job playing and is a fantastic individual. He is a good player, as we’ve always stated. He has earned the right, and England believes he can provide us with something a little bit different from the other attacking players we have,” Southgate said on Thursday.
