Former Australian cricketer Mitchell Johnson is set to square off against former UFC heavyweight champion Soa Palelei, often known as ‘Hulk.’ Mitchell Johnson, one of Australia’s most brilliant test bowlers, will don boxing gloves for the first time when he takes on UFC veteran Soa Palelei.

Johnson and Palelei have been training together for weeks in preparation for their fight at the Corporate Boxing Event on the Great Lawn at Perth’s Crown Casino but the date is not yet known.

Mitchell Johnson explained why he decided to get his hands on a fight. He is competing in the exhibition game to help the Coeliac Research Group at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research, a cause that is close to his heart. The daughter of Mitchell Johnson has celiac disease, which damages the small intestine and results in anaemia. Those who have this illness have difficulty absorbing gluten.
Johnson told the Daily Mail before the fight that “We have a kid who has celiac disease. She becomes quite unwell with even a small bit. If a pro fighter is going to bash me up, we may as well make it worth it.”
He said that during training with Palelei in the run-up to the fight, he had been “learning much” and that his opponent had been “extremely impressed” with how quickly he had picked up the fundamentals of boxing.
