While Gadhvi enjoys the support of a sizable portion of the state’s population, he has also generated some controversy.

Gadhvi was detained in January on suspicion of drinking alcohol. Gujarat is a dry state where alcohol is not permitted. According to the FIR, the AAP leader had blood alcohol levels of 0.0545% (weight by volume). Gadhvi refuted the accusation, claiming that the forensic report may have been falsified at the BJP’s request and offering to submit to a lie detector test to demonstrate his teetotalism.

He has never drunk alcohol or even had contact with it. His own report is being questioned. How can the blood report be positive when my breath analyzer result was negative? Additionally, He is prepared to take my lie detector exam, he informed reporters.

AAP leaders and supporters protested at the BJP’s state office in Ahmedabad on December 20 of last year over a paper leak controversy. The employees of the two parties got into a fight. A BJP activist claimed that Gadhvi and several AAP leaders molested her when she was intoxicated. He was taken by the police for a physical test at Gandhinagar’s Civil Hospital.
