Vinesh Phogat was born in the year 1994, in Bhiwani district, Haryana, India. She has one brother Harvinder Phogat and Ssster Priyanka Phogat. Vinesh did her schooling at a Senior Secondary School in Haryana and completed her graduation from MDU in Rohtak.
In allowing her cousins and herself to follow competitive wrestling, her father, Mahavir Singh Phogat and uncle had to bargain with enormous pressure and enmity from the community in their village in Haryana. They were proclaimed as going against the morals and values of their community.

Vinesh Phogatโs first wrestling championship took place in the year 2013 at the Asian Wrestling Championship in New Delhi, India. Also, she won a bronze medal in the womenโs freestyle 52 kg category by beating opposition Tho-Kaew Sriprapa of Thailand.
In 2014, she was a participant at the Commonwealth Games and represented India in the womenโs freestyle 48 kg category, and won a gold medal. From the year 2015โ2017, she won a silver medal in her category after beating her opponent in the finals. Phogat qualified tournament held in the year 2016 at Rio Olympics in Istanbul and won in the final round by beating her competitor Polish wrestler Iwona Matkowska.
She won a gold medal in womenโs 50 kg freestyle wrestling in the year 2018 held at Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast. Vinesh participated in the Yasar Dogu International competition in the year 2019 and won gold by conquering her rivalry Ekaterina Poleshchuk of Russia and in Poland Open wrestling tournament.
In the year 2021, in the Matteo Pellicone Ranking Series event, she also won a gold medal defeating Canadaโs Diana Mary Helen Weicker.
