Returning to the catch, it occurred when Stoinis cut Mitchell Santner through the offside but mistimed it on the second ball of the eight over. Nevertheless, he wasn’t prepared for what he saw next. He observed Phillips racing, diving headfirst, and grabbing the ball out of thin air.

As shown in the video, Phillips made a catch to remember by sprinting to his left from deep cover, leaping full-length to his left while keeping his body parallel to the ground. It’s already being referred to by some former competitors as the catch of the tournament
New Zealand, who astonishingly has not defeated Australia in Australia in any format since 2011, had history on their side.
New Zealand got off to an incredible start on a cloudy night after Australian captain Aaron Finch sent them in to bat, with Finn Allen smashing two fours and a six off Mitchell Starc’s opening over.
In the opening Super 12 match of the Twenty20 World Cup on Saturday in Sydney, New Zealand set an intimidating 200-3 against Australia as opener Devon Conway carried his bat with a majestic unbeaten 92. Conway’s innings, which included seven fours and two sixes off 58 balls, put him in a small group of World Cup players who have scored 90 runs or more.
As the Black Caps amassed 29 from the first two overs, opening partner Conway, not to be outdone, smashed two ferocious boundaries off Josh Hazlewood. After Pat Cummins was similarly punished by being taken out for 17, Adam Zampa dropped Allen in the following over.
However, when Hazlewood reappeared, the youthful right-luck hander’s ran out. The cunning speed spearhead dismissed him for 42 off only 16 balls as he rushed down the crease.
